A Lot Can Happen In A Year

Well shit, it's been over a year since I last blogged.

At the present, I am a graduate student at the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) studying Higher Education/Student Personnel. I don't have a job and have been unemployed for two months. Had to quit my job as a barista at The Giddy Goat...I miss it terribly. I live with two guys from Mississippi and one from France. Still single, but looking and finding...just need to commit. I had my first experience with weed two nights ago, though don't remember feeling the effects...was drunk.

Think that pretty much sums up where I'm at. Will have to be more present here.

Lovelorn Pt. 2

Well, I'm back. Now what?

After deciding upon and then addressing my five options to be less than sufficient I've decided to keep on the same path as I currently am.

December will be the end of the year and also the end of my undergraduate career; however, I will enroll in a class to maintain student status in the Spring. Attend the Oshkosh Placement Exchange (Student Affairs Career Fair up in Oshkosh, WI) late February/early March in the hopes for a start at a successful career. Leave Rolla late May/early June with a job and graduate school in the wind, and then the rest will be history.

My staying in Rolla is for a number of reasons:

To start, I am the Director for the Performing and Diversity Arts Committee of the Student Union Board. This position is a year-long position and when I was hired the Board knew I was planning to leave in December; however, I know what it's like to come into a position without having the proper training and in handling the already established acts and performances set the semester prior...it's no fun. About time the position had some stability also.

Secondly, my fraternity; Delta Lambda Phi, will be having its Regional Conference on the Missouri S&T campus in the coming Spring. With our current numbership it'll be quite hard to execute a successful conference. The more Brothers, the more likely success will happen.

Thirdly, in my current living arrangement I've signed a lease that grants me living quarters up until May. As I've no guarantee of either employment nor housing after December, staying until May makes the most sense to me.

All of this currently updates to the present, or at the very least, mostly updates to the present. This string of posts is titled "Lovelorn". (A little tidbit; I looked up what was meant by the word...some mght call it a definition.)

It means - unhappy in love; suffering from unrequited love.

You see, I've only ever been in three relationships. Each one lasting: 2 months, 1 month, and 4 months respectively. My last relationship I was hesitant to go into as I was planning on graduating a year from the start of it.

I don't like beginning something with the knowledge that months after beginning a relationship, that very relationship may just be over. But at the same time, as my current room-mate could attest to, I don't like leaving things unfinished. So, it can stand to reason that once I begin a relationship, then it must be ended to be complete.

This is a bit unsettling to me. Seems that I'll need to change my way of thinking.

One thing that I can say, is it's not for a lack of trying. I'm definitely interested in people; however, as I adopt more of a "more talk, less action" stand-point. This though gets me in a bit of trouble if I'm around the wrong crowd when I'm so vocal.

Just can't win.

Wow, football can be a bit homoerotic.

Lovelorn

Greetings and salutations,

Today I find myself sitting by my window observing the gentle sway of the leaves in the breeze. There's a ticking from the ceiling fan and it reminds me of a metronome. The smell of water on the wind enters through the window screen and I'm moved by the scent.

Today I find myself.

So often recently have I posited what's to be my future. In May I was given an award meant to commemorate all of my involvement, care, and legacy within the Residence Halls. Yesterday when a dear friend of mine came to visit I found myself admitting something never spoken before.

My future as I hope it turns out will find me once again within the Residence Halls. I want to impact and impart. I want to lead, and I want to do my best to "benefit" the future of the world by adding perspective and asking those hard to answer questions. Maybe this is because I've found my niche or perhaps it's just a selfish way for me to get my viewpoint instilled in others. Or then maybe this is because I want to help broaden my own perspective and adapt with culture, society, and time... Even then, perhaps it's a mixture of the three.

In May I was awarded the National Distinguished Service Award. It felt great. I stood up, still a bit in awe, started walking down the stairs, hoping that I'd not fall in front of the entirety of NACURH. I felt on top of the world. Afterward I carries my trophies to the room loaned to me for the duration of the conference; in the back corner of some random hall, right next door to the women's restroom...and I was alone.

Just goes to show, you can pour your heart and soul in doing what you love and then reach the pinnacle of recognition; but then in the end find yourself alone next to the women's restroom.

This summer, as lame as it was, prompted me to think ever so more about my future. None of my class are still around, and if they are...they're in graduate school. I'm the lone duck in a crowd of ducklings.

In my thinking I decided upon 5 options for after graduation in December:

1. Apply for an ACUHO-I internship (housing professionals internship)
2. Apply for a Disney internship through the College Program
3. Apply for graduate school for the semester until beginning a career after OPE in March
4. Apply to be a mid-year hire for some program unfortunate enough to loose a Resident Director
5. Be a bum (for a semester)

Addressing (2) I applied and was rejected.
Addressing (1) After failing at (2) decided that I didn't need anything else to add to my already two-page resume.
Addressing (3) I want to go to grad school for free and that won't happen until I have a graduate assistant position.
Addressing (4) I'm the SUB Director for Performing and Diversity Arts and have picked up work that was done previous to me...it's challenging. Can only imagine what it'd be like to pick up work left by a former Resident Director...not to mention the lack of training I'd be able to receive.
Addressing (5) Ha...not sure I can sanely be a bum.

....Been asked to "wrap this mood up and get going"...will come back after STL.

Beginning of the End

Well, it's been some time since I've written anything. Let's see...this summer was kind of a lame summer for me. Wanted to travel and explore the US. Went to Arizona...that was fun. But then stayed in Rolla where I worked and adjusted to apartment living. Think I'm finally to a point where it's ok. Every now and then I have a residual interest in being back in the halls, but at this point...I'm finally finished with the Rolla Res. Life program.

Umm, school started and so far I'm doing alright. Keeping on top of the material for the most part. Nothing turned in late or undone. Recently I was turned down by the Disney corporation...my personality doesn't match what they're looking for. Kind of ok with that.

Delta Lambda Phi has had a successful Rush event with more to come. Actually surprised that we had Rushees for our first event, and I've got some pretty cool tie-dyed shirts. Student Union Board has become my new Res. Life. Going to the office several times a week and keeping busy with hiring acts and preparing paperwork. First event is coming up Thursday.

Living with David is proving to be quite unique. Initially I was unsure if this would work. But finding that it's very easy to talk to him and open up. Come to realize that at times I can be a bit stubborn. But, at the same time, I find that a positive trait when it comes to my will. I don't do anything I don't want to do and finding the power to keep myself honest about that.

...The post is somewhat superficial...guess I'm just in a superficial mood at the moment. Will attempt at a greater presence here.

May...the month after April

Good morning,

How funny life is. Here I am sitting at the eve of my Rolla, Res. Life career and all I can think about is the past. There's so much going on in the future...but suppose that time will come.

This past weekend was the last NACURH I'll ever attend as an undergraduate in Rolla. Graduation is still slated for December. At this conference a "book" was finally finished in a way that I could not have asked for.

It all started in 2004 when I knew change was about to happen. I was going to college. My first time away from Festus and around people so different than I was used to. I experienced things I never thought I would. There were moments of nudity, cursing, laughter, tears, and more. The book was just beginning.

Five years later...I'm awarded the National Distinguished Service Award for NACURH.

Funny, because I had made peace with myself that winning it wouldn't be what mattered. The people and opportunity I've been given to impact and impart myself in others are why I Lived, that's my purpose.

I've a select amount of people I consider true friends and those are why I do what I do. DSA was just the icing on the cake.

(This post could have been better, but my mind is wandering. Will have to make a better attempt soon)

My Time is Up...

The year is nearly over. With this being the last day in April I sit in contemplation and reflection of the years gone by.

Last night I attended my last Residence Hall Association meeting as one who has speaking and voting rights. On Tuesday I attended my last Thomas Jefferson Hall Association meeting, period. Also on Tuesday I attended my last Residential Life "Banquet".

Five years ago, I knew I'd be involved. I knew that what I was beginning as an over-eager freshman would not leave me soon. I knew that I was happy and that I'd grow in whatever I endeavored. I knew that there would be times of great triumph and that my legacy was ever forming.

I did not know that I'd continue to carry on and care for the residents best interests. I did not know that I would many times feel like giving up due to lack of respect or appreciation when it really mattered. I did not know that I would invest so much sweat, patience, tears, conversation and yes, sometimes blood into those that took the time to get to know me in the five years to come.

At times now, I think back at what I've done and wonder how I'll be remembered. Will those that dislike me now take a step back and see my true intentions? Will those that like me now continue to do so? Will those bonds of friendship and family be severed due to petty arguments? Will I be able to maintain and continue into my chosen field of Residential Life at another university's campus? Have I taught anybody about servant leadership, or does it all chalk up to irony?

On the verge of the completion of my Residential Life tenure at Missouri S&T, I do not know the answers to the questions I seek. I do know that I've a summer and a semester left.

This summer I'm to be the Student Union Board Secretary, live off-campus in my new apartment, and seek Fall employment. In the Fall I'm to complete the courses required for graduation, serve as the President of the Beta Nu Chapter of Delta Lambda Phi and serve as the Director for the Student Union Board's Performing and Diversity Arts Committee. Who knows, I might still be involved in the National Residence Hall Honorary and may attend a couple RHAs.

In closing, I'd like to make amends to those that may have been wronged by my doings in my constant search for growth and development. No one's perfect and I certainly have my flaws.

Suppose only time will tell.

Spring is in the Air

Good day,

With the hum of a vacuum and a fresh scent in the air I'm left wondering. Wondering what life will be like in my near future. You see, a lot has happened to me since the last post; as could be expected. Here's a run-down:

Academics:
Organizational Psychology = A (this is with two tests, a homework assignment and part. pts.)
Group Dynamics = B (once the semester ends this will replace a former "F")
Statistics = B (will more than likely have a B at the end of the semester)

I'm all registered for 16 hours in my last semester here at S&T (The last day of classes for the Fall is my 24th birthday)

Since I filed my taxes and filled the FAFSA out on time, I finally have a financial aide package for the first time in 4 years. Also, since I've only one semester left until graduation my aide package is all for the Fall 2009; when normally it would be split between two semesters.

Job:
Working 19 hours per week and saving much more money than I thought I ever would

Didn't get an ACUHO-I internship

Didn't get a position as a Summer Camp Counselor

Looking at a potential job for this summer

Extracurricular:
NRHH President - Doing what I can to make sure we follow our purpose and tenants, also attempting to help with fund raising; though all in all, I don't think I've done anything great in this position. We're inducting four new members into the organization and I already have ideas for who I want to award Bronze Pins to.

TJHA Vice-President - I'm attempting similar actions as NRHH Pres., though I've found that I've a much more difficult advisor. Elections for the E-board are still on-going and I'm afraid the advisor believes us to be failures. Goody

SUB - I've decided to apply for one of two summer positions within the organization and also for a BOD position for the Fall (Performing and Diversity Arts). Interviews are the 21st and 28th. Fun times, wish me luck.

DLP - We went to the Central Regional Conference a few weekends ago and met so many new Brothers. We were also awarded as the host Chapter for the Spring CRC for 2010. I'm on yet another conference staff. I was also just recently elected as the new President.

Apartment:
I'm moving off-campus in May and have lodging in an apartment. I also have in the works to be one of the coolest room-mates. Res. Life has treated me well, and I've benefitted a lot from the teachings, programs, hard-lessons and more. But my time here is done. I've faced too much burnout and resiliency to warrant any more. The way I figure is I'm giving myself a semester off before I commit myself to at least 4 more semesters on after graduation.

Friends:
There are new friends coming at me everyday; however, I find myself desiring some of my "older" friends. There's one in particular that I wish I could just talk to and share, much like we did the summer prior to his departure from Rolla. There are others from Festus that I've discovered a stronger bond, and then some still in Rolla that if only given the opportunity to listen and share could...

Lots of new and exciting things are coming my way as I prepare to say good-bye to some of my most familiar goings and doings. It's scary on one hand, but then encouraging and curious on the other.

My life is shaping up and moving in a new direction. I've not felt as much contentment in uncertainty as this before. While some things are uncertain, others are most definitely not and those that aren't are not in a great way.

Time for me to retire this post and go explore the world that's opening up to me; no matter how weird or unfamiliar a way as it is.

Senior Staff Selection and the Works

Good afternoon.

As you may know I am the Senior Staff Selection Committee Chair. My job as appointed is to orchestrate a committee of 11 in the dealings of confidential discussions, candidate evaluations, presentations and recommendations (in short). This is no little feat. First off, I've little to know say in who ultimately gets hired for Senior Staff:

[side-note: Senior Staff refers to the combined "senior" leadership including the Senior Resident Assistants and Head Residents; is does not equate to only Senior Resident Assistants as is commonly mistaken.] This has become a pet-peeve of mine. My committee is not titled the "Senior Staff and Head Resident Selection Committee"...wish people would understand that. But I digress.

...carrying on, and as I've no real power in selection I'm left with a bit of uncertainty. I knew that when running for the position as Chair that this would be the case. Methinks I'll take this opportunity to flex my seldom used "unbiased" muscle.

Secondly, I'm working with a committee of representatives from across the residence halls. As silly as this may sound, each of the complexes have quite the unique personality and even the leadership that makes up the committee; while functioning under the same goal, has quite the unique personalities as associated by which they represent. This proves difficult at times as I too, posses a personality quite unique to Thomas Jefferson Hall; of which are only two committee members ultimately selected to represent.

As a consequence, I don't always have the mindset to attract the committee and inspire them to know why their job is of most importance. Some who have began have not been able to come full circle due to a number of personal reasons. Suppose it's good that I've been able to maintain a flexible mind. For I hear that flexibility is an indicator of good mental health.

Friday was my first experience as Chair. While I've spent the good majority of four months working on the goings-on and progress of the committee all of the work culminated in our first presentation.

Saturday I helped maintain the tone set the day prior and saw that, even through a few mishaps here and there, the process and committee were held to time and integrity.

Today brings the end of the committees full commitment with the presentations of the "Top Dogs" in the Res. Life Food Chain. I feel that with my sleep finally caught up and my new-found understanding of what the process entails that today will be a good day.

The Works refer to personal tidings that haven't been completely resolved and I fear that they may never be.

- With as much responsibility as I've been given to oversee such a confidential and delicate process in the SSSC. I've also been charged and succeeded in the authoring of an eight-page bid on S&T's Student of the Year nominee.

- I'm working with my executive board to secure the processes of the Shamrock Chapter of NRHH.

- Still attending to my duties and upholding more as Vice-President for TJHA.

- Working to continue secured funds that will allow me to receive the piece of paper that states I'm qualified to seek employment in my chosen field.

- And keeping the end goal in sight.

Thanks for reading

January in a Reflection

Good morning,

The motivation to write and the time to process thoughts are in sync. The month of January is over. To date it has become one of the best and worst months in my recent history. It all started when:

On December 31st I found myself at the abode of one of my oldest friends (I've known her for going on 18 years) celebrating with a mass of high school buddies to bring in the New Year. There was a bonfire, fireworks, games, and drinks galore. The previous time I graced her lawn was back in the Fall of 2007 when I got a bit too free with my emotions and in an attempt at turning the spotlight on me, I pushed someone equally "free" into a pool and ruined his phone. Needless to say, the spotlight was indeed turned to me, but not as I wanted it. That night wasn't a good one, and it was refreshing to know that with the new year on our footsteps, I had yet to make an ass of myself this time. Actually, quite the reverse happened. You see, I went to bed earlier than the rest and as a consequence woke earlier. This gave me time to clean up a bit of the mess from the party and organize things for when my host rose. It was the best get-together I'd ever been to.

As January went on I found myself back in Rolla for Winter Training and Winterfest (of which was my idea, but also of which I did not contribute). The training was turning out to be bittersweet, namely due to the fact that my days were numbered as a student. I had yet to procure enough funds to return to Rolla and many nights before my return I found myself crying as I slept. I didn't want to say good-bye. This was to be the year of my graduation and I've fought long and hard to get where I am. I wasn't done, I'd not yet fulfilled my purpose, not established my legacy. On January 7th at 3:30pm in the afternoon I was able to come to a financial agreement of sorts with the University. A "dummy" loan was set up as anticipated aid so as to allow for my registration for the Spring Semester courses necessary for graduation at the end of the year. Shortly after the "dummy" loan was set up I was blessed with the support of a true friend. He volunteered to be a co-signer on a loan that would take care my of struggle until after I received my degree. Things were looking up.

Winter Training happened. It was different from the previous three I had been a part of in various positions and there seemed to be more promise in the atmosphere. Whether that promise came from a realized safety on my part in way of financing or in the knowledge and realization of the leadership potential the department has been able to garner this year, or both. It felt better, it felt good.

Three weeks of classes have gone by. I'm not where I want to be with all of them, but I'm on the right track. I still legitimately have the potential for a 4.0 semester. Personality Theory with Sharpsteen is proving new, refreshing, difficult to understand, and exciting all at once. Organizational with Martin seems to be similar to all of the other "Martin" courses: fun, honest, testing. Group Dynamics with Stone is proving a much more enriching experience than the last time I took it, though I don't have as good a company as I did previously. Statistics scares me a little, but it's all math that I can understand. I just don't possess the affinity for mathematics that most Rolla students seem to project.

Early in January I decided it was best to move off-campus. Money was tight, and I was facing difficulties even managing enough to stay in TJ this one semester. Just think what it'd be like with the increases in the Fall. In my realization that off-campus was where I needed to be, I asked my current room-mate; who surprising shared little interest, at least little interest in moving off with me. Luck came my way when in sitting down at the deemed "Res. Life" table I overheard word of a potential apartment located at 805 N. State St. that was to have 17 rooms. After hearing more about it, I was placed on a "maybe" list of potentials that might move in, along with a number of very diverse and dynamic personalities. I invited John (my room-mate) to see his thoughts, and we invited a couple more from 5 South. But, as seemed tradition if you invite a few, you invite the rest. So, I found myself at the helm of 7 others behind me on the way to look at an apartment. The initial party formed was a bit in shock, but dealt with it. After touring the apartment the first time, I was so excited and ready to sign right then and there. My floor, was not...well, my room-mate was not. He wanted to browse other living options...supposing that's a smart idea.

As a consequence of my liking for the apartment on State St. he organized a touring of another location without my invitation. Once I realized I was being excluded...I hurt. I finagled a few things in the way of proving my interest in living with the floor I too went with to a new apartment on Pine St. I was unhappy, and lost. I felt like through my exclusion I wasn't worth anything. I also didn't want to live in a basement with only one window. I need the sun.

This story came to a conclusion when I realized that while I loved the community that was on 5, I want happiness and well-being more. My happiness came when I decided to live in the first apartment. This was not without some consequence, but I was ready and willing to take them on. I needed a room-mate to help me with the costs, and surprisingly found one in one who's becoming more and more important to me in my life.

Toward the latter part of January with: finances coming in that ultimately secured my semester (I've a zero balance for the year on Joe'SS), academics coming in manageable and exciting doses, elected positions reaping benefits (the Senior Staff Selection process is nearly complete, I'm learning and applying skills as the leader of the National Residence Hall Honorary, and I've developed quite the bond with my President of the Thomas Jefferson Hall Association), and my housing for the Fall getting resolved...I found myself wandering a bit more. In my first wandering I made way to the Residential College.

I met up with a Resident Assistant who earlier in the month provided unexpected support and understanding for my financial situation and went out to eat. Through that process and in the inclusion of my future room-mate I was able to break down barriers and open myself up to a positive experience. After food, the three of us made way to the second of the RC buildings. Fun discussion was had. I discovered that I've a similar mind to the first fellow and we were able to feed off each-other, unashamedly at the expense of the third; but that all was resolved in an enlightening discussion. As the night went on, my initial supporter left and I was left in the presence of the other. This was the best and worst thing that could have happened.

The two of us opened up. I opened up in a way I have never done before. Boundaries were being blurred, relaxation and honest discussion was leading into a potentially unexpected climax. However, just when it seemed as if the night would lead to a ruining of our friendship, we were saved by the sobering realization that what might was to come, would not be good. We stopped. Talked. Processed. Hugged. Departed.

The month of January was a month to remember. Many times I found myself waking in one mood and sleeping in the opposite. Many times did I challenge my self-worth and purpose. Many times did I learn; all aspects of learning. Many times I wandered. Many times have I considered my roles in others' lives. Just many times...

But alas, the month is over and not without consequence; good and bad. While financing and others issues are resolved, relationships and emotions still need to be checked. I've still got quite the year ahead it seems. I'm resolved to taking it a day at a time. I want to continue my reflection, but I need those willing to listen to do just that. We'll see where that leads me.

P.S. In reprocessing and editing a bit of this post, I realized that there are still things left out in my recount. However, those above are the most important. Thank you for reading

A New Month

Good evening,

Today I signed a lease on an apartment. Yesterday my loan came through, and the status on my Joe'SS is "You have no outstanding charges". The Superbowl is on and all I want to do is watch the movie Rent.

The Future is NOW?!?!?

Top of the morning,

Today brings me to contemplate my future. What is in it? This past weekend MACURH 2008 brought 500+ residents, guests, and special guests to the quaint town of Rolla, MO. Now, this is something that has been in the works for nearly two years and it is both the first conference I've helped run and arguably the last I'll attend as an undergrad. The emotions of this past weekend left me drained, excited, sad, and contemplative.

I was given a lot of recognition, some deserved. And I was able to meet with some of my collegue-acquaintences. This, with me on the cusp of grad school and continued involvement in college student personnel, helped put things in perspective. What's in my future? Will I interact with those I've met in my years?

This morning I was sent an e-mail from a university in Missouri because they're interested in interviewing with me at OPE. But, I don't fit what they're looking for. Will I find my fit?

Apologies for the flow, or lack there of.

Tuesday (Foggy, Foggy Dew)

Top of the morning to ya,

"How's your day?" "What's going on?" "Did you do well on your test?" "Can I get my key?"

These are a section of questions I've been asked so far as the residents mosey past the desk on the way to class. It's almost surreal. After 5 years of the same school I'm looking at these residents and projecting who they'll be in the years to come. A lawyer? An accepting homosexual? A barkeep at the local pub? It's quite interesting.

Time to Breathe

Ahoy, it feels good to be done. As mentioned before I've been pretty stressed out with things to do. Here's a run-down of things I've done:

TJHA -
Three E-Board meetings and Committee List-serv updates

DLP -
Two 2-hour meetings, RUSH, and extension of bids (4 in total)

RHA -
4 completed programs (ABC's of Res. Life, Pimp Your Room, TJHA Presents: "The Looney Goonie Swim-In Movie"

MACURH -
Staff and Director meeting. Contacting Perfect 10 Improv

NRHH -
Organization meeting

Academics -
Request to take credits, addition of a course, attended every class thus far, note-taking

Work -
6 hours at the front desk

It's been fun...but now things are wrapping up. RUSH is over, I've only one more Fall Fest program left to do, have some homework to take care of and most definitely need some time with Donnell.

Oh...and might have a funeral to attend come this Thursday. Two cousins passed Friday; the Father killed the mother and then killed himself. Their daughter found her parents and called the police.

In the Midst

Good day to you. These past few weeks I've been busy trying to catch up with the "wipper-snappers". While I may be all of 22 years of age I feel somewhat an outsider. My room mate is the Public Relations Officer for RHA and is a sophomore. He and I've had many a conversation about age, mentality, and personality.

School's up and running. Today is the third day of many more to come. So far things university-wise are on track and I've A's in all of my classes. Score for me. I've class at 11:00 and a pretty big Fall Fest program coming up tonight. Also, this is the second week of DLP Rush. Fun times.

Pre-Training Day 1

Greetings. Training for Res. Life begins today. The sun is shining and my room is full. Wonder what the day'll bring. Stay tuned for more.

Wednesday, August 6, 2008

Twelve hours left before the beginning of the end.

Evening, I am writing with an air of anxiety upon me. 10 am tomorrow morning will see me heading back to Rolla, Missouri for my last year of undergraduate schooling. Twill be 5 years in total. Earlier today my Uncle told me it didn't seem so long ago that I left. This got me thinking.

Really? But then, I've not been too visible for my family before or after college.

This scares me. When next May rolls around it's my hope to be prepping for the East. When that happens, visits will be even fewer and farther between.

Suppose time shall tell...

A More Concentrated Effort

Greetings and salutations,

So, tonight I was reminded of my failing effort to blog. A dear friend flattered me stating that he'd love to read it. This brings a funny thought to mind...what is love? At nearly 23 love is nothing I've much experience with. As a self-proclaimed empath (one who can possess emotional sympathy) I know I've been around those who feel love, but I an ignorant to the feeling.

Love...is like Life. It exists and one can chose what to make of it. Just like life you can live...or Live. Suppose that'd be something similar to love. You can love, or Love?

...
So, this effort seems to be failing once more. I'm talking in riddles and it's too much work at the moment. This started when that friend wished luck to all those he's fond of as those embark on the beginnings of their Res. Life adventure (Fall Training). I mentioned earlier that I'm to be the "old guy" in the room. Now might be a good point to further explanation.

I started my journey way back when in 2004. My freshman year roommate was Phil Ross, a 3rd year at that point. He inspired me to work towards growth and shoot for learning opportunities. He's also the spark that led to my first-ever OTM (September 2004 Student Of the Month). Then I was the QHA President, 6NW RA, RHA PCC, and now I'm to be the VP for TJHA.

Anyone confused? ;)

I shall explain:

Freshman - Overly involved with figuring myself out. Inspired to present Sticky Topics Series of Programs (a diversity series where people sit and talk...sounds simple right? shame it doesn't happen enough). Prospective TJHA (Thomas Jefferson Hall Association) President...but moved to the Quad, involved in RHA (Residence Hall Association) and SUB (Student Union Board)

Summer - Summer Camp Counselor

Sophomore - QHA (Quadrangle Hall Association) President (due to moving second semester freshman year from 753 to Kelly 12) This year I decided to come out during Fall Training

Junior - RA (Resident Assistant) in Thomas Jefferson Hall floor 6 North-West. Discovered true passion for Residential Life and realized the impact I can have. I love helping others learn and grow. Joined the National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH)

Senior - RHA (Residential Hall Association) PCC (Programming Communications Coordinator) ; equivalent to the NPR (National Programming Representative), NRHH Vice-Pres, and ...more.

And those are just some highlights...

I've gone through two and a half Fall Trainings and three Winter Workshops.

Summation...there'll be a lot asked of me. Am I ready? Will I be ready? Do I want to be ready? All quesitons I'll have to answer as the year goes by.

Until that happens...

Pakh out (with...)
I'm three days back in Festus now (hometown) and this morning I woke up stoked for the coming year. I'm to be the "old guy"
